Best GPU for the Money in 2026: Every Tier, 1080p to 4K
Updated October 15, 2026 · PC Atlas
Prices below are PC Atlas typical prices for October 2026. Live prices change daily, so check each card's page before you buy. Performance numbers use the PC Atlas index (RTX 5090 = 100), built from Tom's Hardware's 1440p Ultra results (June 2026).
1080p: $160–$320
- Best value overall: a used RX 6700 XT 12GB (~$219, index 32). The most speed per dollar we track, if you're comfortable buying used. On a tighter budget, a used RX 6600 (~$159, index 15) still handles esports at 1080p.
- Best new for 12GB: Intel Arc B580 12GB (~$279, index 30). 12GB of VRAM at this price is the reason to pick it. One catch: Arc cards lose speed with budget CPUs (Ryzen 5 5600 class and older) and need Resizable BAR turned on, so pair it with a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, a Ryzen 7000 or newer.
- Alternative 1: RX 9060 XT 8GB (~$299, index 37). About 23% faster than the B580 today and happy with any CPU, but 8GB of VRAM will age faster.
- Alternative 2: RTX 5060 8GB (~$319, index 36). Similar speed with DLSS 4 upscaling, and the same 8GB limit.
1440p: $390–$720
- Budget 1440p: RX 9060 XT 16GB (~$389, index 40). The 16GB version is the one to buy.
- Sweet spot: RX 9070 16GB (~$629, index 62) edges the RTX 5070 12GB (~$599, index 58) on speed and VRAM.
- High refresh: RX 9070 XT 16GB (~$719, index 70), level with the RTX 5070 Ti for much less.
4K: $1,000+
- RTX 5070 Ti 16GB (~$999, index 70) and RTX 5080 16GB (~$1,399, index 77) are the realistic 4K cards. Performance per dollar drops fast up here.
- RTX 5090 32GB (~$3,299, index 100) is the fastest card you can buy and the worst value. Only buy it if you need 32GB for AI/creative work or want the absolute top.
Why we avoid 8GB cards above $300
TechSpot's testing of the RTX 5060 Ti 8GB vs 16GB found the 8GB version stuttering, crashing or dropping textures in games like Hogwarts Legacy, Indiana Jones and Horizon Forbidden West at settings the 16GB card ran smoothly. Their advice: at least 12GB around $300 and 16GB at $400 and up. We agree.
